Court Couture: Ace Your Tennis Skincare Ritual

You’ve just hit an ace and won the game. It’s exhilarating.

But sweat is dripping from your face. You carelessly wipe away the fluid, wondering about the best skin care routine for your apres-tennis skin.

Skincare, much like tennis, is about discipline and ritual. It’s also about a routine that’s as polished as your backband.

Let’s start with your pre-match skincare routine. Focus on prepping your skin like a pro:

  • Use a hydrating gel cleanser to remove bacteria while keeping your skin hydrated for peak performance;

  • Include a high-performance sunscreen with at least a 30-SPF formula designed for movement and endurance; and

  • Consider adding an antioxidant-rich spray to refresh and protect against free radicals in the air before stepping on court.

After a match or tennis workout, it’s important to revive your skin:

  • Use a hypochlorous spray to calm redness and neutralize bacteria from sweat and free radicals;

  • Apply an antioxidant serum such as Vitamin C, niacinamide, or hyaluronic acid to replenish hydration in the skin and to fight free radicals from sun exposure;

  • Depending on your skin type, use a cooling gel mask with aloe, cucumber, or green tea to soothe heat-exposed skin; using ice globes or a chilled gua sha can provide a bonus; and

  • Add a gentle AHA/BHA or enzyme exfoliant to remove sweat buildup and dead skin.

By treating your skin as thoughtfully as your game, you ensure it stays radiant, resilient, and ready for every ACE that comes your way!

These recommendations are for normal skin. In future posts, Genevieve will focus on specific skin issues, including oily skin, acne-prone skin, menopausal skin, and mature skin.
